Coal Processing Plant Design

Coal is Australia's largest energy resource. It may be used without any processing other than crushing and screening to reduce the fragments to a usable and consistent size. However, black coal is often washed to remove pieces of rock or mineral that may be present. Fraser-Lever is an innovator in coal processing plant design and is actively working on Australian and PNG mining sites to introduce tailored solutions that deliver unmatched high productivity and cost-efficiencies.

The BMA Coal project was a brown fields plant modification to enable the relocation of an existing longwall mining plant from Crinum underground mine to Crinum East ‘High Wall’ mine.

Fraser-Lever’s scope included: Design and specification of 4km by 4000 tonne per hour overland conveyor, design of foundations, transfer chutes and associated structures for relocation of 30 metre high stockpiling conveyor, design of extension of reclaim tunnel, design of breaker station and rejects system.

Project Value: $A33 Million.

Case Study – Glencore Oaky Creek Coal Preparation Plant Upgrade

The Glencore Oaky Creek coal processing plant upgrade project was completed in two stages to increase throughput from 650TPH to 1,350TPH and included the installation of: Jameson flotation, 2-off 110M2 belt filters. Design throughput was achieved within 24 hours of commencement of commissioning of the third module.

Other works included:

  • Upgrading of the existing breaker station from 1,100TPH to 2,000TPH.

  • Magnetic Separator Installation

  • New chutes to each of the breakers, vibratory feeders, multi-slope screens, magnetic separators, conveyors etc.

  • Redesign of flotation cells, Flocculant storage, mix and distribution.  Feasibility design and costing for the fourth module of CHPP.
